On Saturday, March 5, 2011, Pettit Kohn staff concluded a two-year commitment with I Love A Clean San Diego and the Adopt-A-Beach program. In 2009, Pettit Kohn adopted the section of beach located in front of Powerhouse Park in Del Mar. Since then Pettit Kohn volunteers have removed over 100 lbs of trash and recyclables to protect local marine species.
Participating volunteers for this cleanup included Pettit Kohn staff members along with family and friends, as well as a terrific group from the Boys & Girls Club of North County that traveled all the way from Fallbrook.

On Saturday, September 25, 2010, Pettit Kohn staff took part in the 26th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day. This is San Diego County’s largest volunteer event to remove trash and debris from over 86 cleanup sites. Pettit Kohn volunteers include staff members along with their family and friends who helped to reduce additional waste by bringing their own reusable containers to the event.
In 2009, Pettit Kohn partnered with I Love a Clean San Diego to adopt Del Mar-North beach (located between Powerhouse Park and Via de la Valle). To date Pettit Kohn’s volunteers have participated in a total of 5 cleanup events and removed approximately 70 lbs of trash from reaching our ocean.

For the second year Pettit Kohn Attorney & Team Captain Jenna Leyton led her team in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life campaign. The event took place in downtown San Diego on Saturday, August 21-22, 2010 where Jenna and her Pettit Kohn team members walked around Embarcadero North for 24 hours.
Funds raised support The American Cancer Society which offers many free programs for patients and survivors, including rides to and from treatment; the Cancer Survivors Network for support; beauty products for patients to help them restore their self-confidence after debilitating treatment; and much more.
This year’s Relay weekend was an enormous success, raising approximately $150,000 (compared to last year’s $70,000) to aid in the fight against cancer. The monetary support provided is invested wisely. 75% of funds raised in CA will be spent on national and California based research, prevention, early detection, treatment, and patient support services. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and support of all of Relay’s participants and donors. A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in and/or donated to Relay for Life!

We would like to congratulate Mark Bloom for all his efforts towards his campaign for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year 2010 title. The winners of the Man and Woman of the Year were announced at the Grand Finale held in The Music Box at the Henry Fonda Theater on April 10, 2010. The group of 11 (5 men and 6 women) raised over $350,000, with Mark individually raising over $20,000. All money raised benefits The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society programs, including research, patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign is a fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. in which participants vie for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. They raise funds for blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. The titles are awarded to the men and women in each community who raise the most funds during the ten-week campaign; the top local fundraisers in the country also win the national titles.
